In Vienna, we have tried a little bit of an unconventional solution - a bunk double-bed which does not have a ladder, but a tailor-made staircase which is also a storage cabinet. This is not so unusual, but the exit itself on the floor of the bed is through the opening above the staircase.
 
The biggest benefit is maximum space utilization without the need to reduce the storage space. The second advantage is the aesthetics of the design - the bed from the front looks symmetrical. The storage space below the stairs passes smoothly into the desk of the table, which is placed under the bunk bed. All the furniture thus follows up and produces a clear, uniform impression.
